About the Bryants...


Dr. Brian R. Bryant

Brian R. Bryant, Ph.D. lives and works in Austin, Texas. After teaching special education public school students for 3 years in Maine, 2 years in Grades K-8 and 1 year in Grades 9-12, Brian moved to Texas to work on his doctorate. Since graduation in 1984, he has served in many professional capacities, including as the Director of Research at Pro-Ed, Inc., an educational publishing company located in Austin, adjunct faculty member at The University of Texas at Austin and Florida Atlantic University, and Research Fellow at The University of Texas’ Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts. Currently, Brian is conducting mathematics research in Grade K through 2 on evidence-based assessments and interventions for struggling students for the Vaughn Gross Center and the Texas Education Agency. In the past, he has served as Visiting Professor at several colleges across the country, including the University of Louisville, Pacific Lutheran University, and the University of Hawaii. Brian has worked as a consultant on numerous projects, including the Reading First Teacher Education Network, Texas Reading First, NCATE’s RFTEN Program Evaluation, and The University of Texas System’s TRAKS Project. The author of over 100 articles, tests, professional development guides, and books/chapters in books, Brian has made more than 100 professional presentations statewide, nationally, and internationally. His research interests involve service provision for individuals with learning disabilities and mental retardation, particularly with regards to reading, mathematics, and assistive technology applications throughout the lifespan. Brian is a veteran of the United States Air Force.


Dr. Diane Pedrotty Bryant
Diane Predrotty Bryant, Ph.D. is a professor of learning disabilities in the Department of Special Education at The University of Texas at Austin and a fellow in the Cissy McDaniel Parker fellowship. She received her doctorate from the University of New Mexico in 1986. Diane has taught students with learning disabilities in Crownpoint, New Mexico and in the Albuquerque, New Mexico public schools, where she also served as an administrator. Prior to her moving to Texas, Diane served on the faculty of Florida Atlantic University. She is currently serving as the principal investigator for the Validation of Early Mathematics Project, which is being funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, and the Three Tier Mathematics Project, funded by the Texas Education Agency. She has published numerous articles in refereed journals on instructional strategies for students with learning problems and is the co-author of several textbooks and tests. Most recently, she has been involved in conducting research studies throughout the United States involving the development of assessment measures to identify students who have mathematics difficulties and the validation of early mathematics interventions for young, struggling students. She has presented the results of her research at national and international conferences, and has developed numeroud professional development materials used by teachers to help children improve their reading and math skills.
